Mitra Assemi, PharmD, is an associate professor of clinical pharmacy in the UCSF School of Pharmacy’s Department of Clinical Pharmacy and director of the School’s Fresno Pharmacy Education Program. She is also a co-investigator of the grant supporting the Partners in D program.

Dr. Assemi, with UCSF colleagues, is nationally known for the development of a cultural competence curriculum for pharmacy and other health professions educators. She has also developed and implemented cultural competence-related training into the School’s core curriculum. As director of the Fresno Pharmacy Education Program, Dr. Assemi oversees and coordinates advanced pharmacy practice experiences for third- and fourth-year pharmacy students in California’s Central San Joaquin Valley. In addition, she has developed and implemented an outreach program targeting underrepresented minority and socioeconomically disadvantaged junior high, high school and college students and helped develop and administrate the School’s Early Conditional Admissions Program. Her current research interests include evaluation tools and models for assessing outcomes associated with cultural competency training for educators, pharmacists, and students.

Dr. Assemi earned a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of California, San Francisco, where she then completed a pharmacy practice residency. She joined the UCSF faculty in 1998.
