University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine
Cindy J. Lai, MD, is assistant clinical professor in the UCSF School of Medicine’s Department of Medicine and a co-investigator of the grant supporting the Partners in D program.
Dr. Lai serves as the site director for the medicine clerkship for third-year medical students at UCSF’s Moffitt and Long Hospitals, and she is the director for the cross-disciplinary third-year intersessions course. She also serves as the associate program director for the Primary Care General Internal Medicine Residency.
Dr. Lai’s academic interest is medical education for clinical students and residents. She co-developed a novel interdisciplinary chronic disease curriculum for nurse practitioner students, pharmacy students, and primary care residents. In this conference series, interdisciplinary learners learned evidence-based disease guidelines and self-management skills, collaboration techniques, and the role of health care systems in chronic disease management. Dr. Lai also co-developed the interdisciplinary post-discharge home visit for pharmacy and medical students on their inpatient medicine clerkship. The intersession course, which she leads, is an innovative longitudinal course on professional development, evidence-based medicine, health policy and health care systems, medical ethics, and translational medicine.
Dr. Lai earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Southern California, and completed a residency in primary care internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. After a clinician-educator fellowship, Dr. Lai joined the UCSF in 2003.
