Marilyn Stebbins, PharmD is a health sciences clinical professor in the UCSF School of Pharmacy’s Department of Clinical Pharmacy, and a co-principal investigator of the grant supporting the Partners in D program. Dr. Stebbins focuses her clinical work and research on the underserved, with the ultimate goal of improving medication access and quality medication care to those most in need—the elderly and those with low incomes and limited English language skills. In her position at UCSF, she serves as pharmacy utilization director for the Catholic Healthcare West Medical Foundation’s Mercy Medical Group, a 170-provider group practice based in Sacramento, California. In this role, she designed, developed, and currently manages a drug utilization system in a managed care environment.

Dr. Stebbins has extensive experience researching prescription drug access for low-income patients. Within the Mercy Medical Group, she implemented the Pharmacists Review to Increase Cost-Effectiveness (PRICE) Clinic, which helps elderly patients decrease out-of-pocket drug expenses while ensuring that patients receive clinically appropriate drug regimens. The PRICE Clinic experience was published in the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy in 2005.

With her pharmacy students at UCSF, Dr. Stebbins has been conducting community outreach to patients and providers on Medicare Part D since the plan was introduced in 2005. Her current research also includes the development and implementation of a Medicare-eligible medication therapy management service model using the PRICE Clinic framework.

Dr. Stebbins earned a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of California, San Francisco. She completed a general clinical residency at the University of California, Davis Medical Center after which she worked as an ambulatory care clinical pharmacist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Outpatient Clinic in Sacramento, California. She was also responsible for a pharmacy clerkship program in ambulatory care for the University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy and the UCSF School of Pharmacy. Dr. Stebbins joined the UCSF faculty in 1996.
